I have developed a large folio of sketchbook drawings and paintings over the year, and it’s good to finally get some of this work online. Don’t take this site too seriously — it’s a straightforward place for me to add and catalogue my work in a simple digital format, and I genuinely enjoy the process of building and maintaining websites. Having this space also encourages me to pull out the sketchpad, paints, charcoals and inks more often, to experiment a little more freely, and to keep practicing. The content below has all been created this year. These pieces were a selection that I chose from my sketchbooks, leaving behind many more that didn’t make the cut. I have chosen to go with quality over quantity… but what does that even mean? Quality to me may mean something much different to you. Essentially it comes down to the works I like best and feel most connected to. None of these are for sale.
It’s refreshing to work in a different medium instead of paint. These two drawings were created with oil pastels, and it was enjoyable to make them. I plan to produce more work in this style going forward.
These are my interpretations of a garden, rendered in acrylic on A2 watercolour board.
Novelty theory is a pseudoscientific philosophical idea created by ethnobotanist and mystic Terence McKenna in the early 1970s.
One would have to be a smoker to understand.
A lot of time went into these pieces. There are multiple layers and I added to each painting once the previous coat dried.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me
I can feel their blue hands touching me
All these things into position
All these things we'll one day swallow whole

My camera isn’t picking up my full range of colours. Very frustrating. This piece was created with oil pastels.
More charcoal pieces. Most of these took maybe sixty seconds to create. It’s bizarre how some of my better pieces are created by attempting to be 100% spontaneous. Basically, drawing without a plan. Freedom at it’s best. I had fun with the drawings.
This painting was created using watered-down acrylic paints, a technique that gives the colors a translucent, layered quality. This approach has quickly become my favorite medium for its versatility and subtle effects.
For as long as I can remember I have always loved drawing wine bottles, wine glasses and pots. Poorly, but the is something intrigue with the beautiful curves in these objects. You will find these in a lot of my art.
These pieces were created a couple of years back but still rank among my top ten sketchbook entries. They reflect my struggle with alcohol from the when I was an addict.

Another painting that I would like to further explore. I can feel a series coming on.
A few tubes of white paint went into the creation of this piece. It was fun to create.
I am almost happy with how these turned out. I even picked up an A2 pad and some paints today to continue and create larger, more detailed works. Don’t make too much of the title — it simply meant I’d had enough of certain things within my art and was battling art block, so I decided to cover the paper with white paint layered over almost-dry acrylic. It’s funny how unsuccessful pieces can become something unexpectedly desirable. I’ll post the new works soon, so drop by again in a couple of days.
This was another experiment. I turned the lights off and began drawing with my stick of charcoal, letting shapes emerge in the dark. The results were unexpectedly striking. I genuinely liked what I had created. It’s a small reminder that, with a little curiosity and courage, anyone can discover their own artist within.
Not too much to say about these. Mixed media on A3 paper.
These were thrown together during one of my many stays in hospital.
There’s always something that has a grasp on me that I can’t quite shake. I have given up drinking and drugs, but now my habit centers on vapes and energy drinks. I will quit—just not yet; I’ll do it when the time is right.
These are drawings created a long time ago.
These come across as being rushed and without much thought put behind them, but they actually turned out the way I was hoping. I recently transferred these onto canvas and they looked promising, yet they were later painted over and ended up a mess I’m too embarrassed to display here. Lesson learned.
At a loss as what to do with some freshly painted A3 acrylics, I placed one wet piece and placed it on another. The results were interesting but that will be the last time I do this as they carry no meaning. I must say they were fun to create. I placed them next to the ducted heating, they dried but also attached themselves to the floor. The paper was easy to remove but the paint let a stain I cannot get off the floorboards.
All I can say is that my life is pretty plain
I like watching the puddles gather rain
And all I can do
Is just pour some tea for two
And speak my point of view
But it's not sane
It's not sane

This was an impressive piece before I put a wash over it. It still holds a special part of my heart but I should have backed of on the turps.
I’m in love with huge texture. The paper almost fell apart with the weight of the paint and water. Photos are a little over exposed.
I don’t. It’s a nice self development project I should try.
These were drawn during one of my many admissions to hospital. I’d love to take these and use them as a blueprint for a large canvas.
This was one of my earliest attempts at creating a piece using only oil pastels, experimenting with color and texture.
It really isn’t. We are screwed and everyone is going about their business like nothing is taking place. They will find out soon enough!
Some things never change. I drew these almost two decades ago, and I still take pleasure in looking at them. Don’t ask me what happened to them — some stories are better left unspoken.
These were just a couple of paintings I created in hospital. I have had over 20 admissions to hospital and every time I was creating art. I hate to think what happened to all of that content. These two were sold to one of my mums friends.
This is a drawing that probably deserve to be put on my ink page (www.djsink.com) but it found it’s home here.
